Overview

Restoran Xing Yuan Dim Sum 兴源点心楼, nestled in the heart of Taman Megah Ria, Masai, Johor, stands out as an honest gem for dim sum lovers. This unpretentious spot may look modest from outside, but inside, it delivers a genuine culinary experience that few can rival in the region.

The true highlight here is the Signature Big Juicy Pork Bao. True to its name, the bun is substantial and brimming with succulent pork that captures a perfect balance of seasoning and juiciness. It’s arguably one of the best pork buns you can find in Malaysia, a testament to the owner’s dedication to quality and authentic flavors. Alongside this, the chives dumplings offer a harmonious blend where neither the pork nor the herb dominates; both ingredients lift each other, creating a well-rounded bite that feels crafted with care.

The owner’s journey adds a deeper layer to this dining experience. Having run popular outlets in Singapore’s Bedok North, he moved back to Malaysia amidst the pandemic and channeled his expertise into this restaurant. His insistence on fresh ingredients and meticulous marination techniques ensures consistent quality across the dim sum menu. This transparency in food preparation resonates with patrons seeking authenticity and sincerity in their meals.

The space itself is simple, lacking elaborate decorations or modern aesthetics, but this understated environment puts the spotlight squarely on the food. It’s a place where locals and visitors alike come to savor honest flavors without distraction. Staff here are noted for their warmth and patience, often helping guests select dishes tailored to their preferences, making the experience feel personalized and welcoming.

Restoran Xing Yuan Dim Sum appeals especially to those who appreciate traditional Cantonese dim sum done right. It caters well to families, groups of friends, and anyone looking for a fulfilling meal that respects time-honored recipes. Beyond the food, the friendly atmosphere and reasonable pricing make it a spot worth returning to, particularly for anyone exploring Johor Bahru’s rich food scene.

In summary, this dim sum haven combines quality, taste, and heart in a humble setting. If you find yourself near Taman Megah Ria, skipping this place would be a missed opportunity to enjoy one of Johor’s hidden culinary treasures.

Great Dim Sum overall, not to be missed when you come to JB Malaysia. Main star of this place is their Signature Big Juicy Pork Bao which stays true to the name, it's really big and juicy and the flavour is one of if not the best when comes to pork bun in Malaysia. Another dim sum which you must try is their chives dumplings which is also very flavourful and balance at the same time, the chives nor the pork overpowers but instead complements each other very well. Spoke with the owner and he's very persistent with using the freshest ingredients and also he's very particular on the marination of the pork to ensure the taste is always optimal for all his dim sums. The owner and staffs there are really nice and patient to help us choose the dim sums which is best suited to our preference. In fact the owner shared with me his story where he used to open a few stores in Singapore around Bedok North region a few years ago, but due to Covid his business is affected and so he had to move back to Malaysia and opened this current dim sum restaurant ever since. I heard that his pork buns used to be quite popular in Singapore especially in the east side pre-covid. Lastly not forgetting to mention about the price which is very reasonable based on the quality of the food. A dim sum restaurant definitely not to be missed in Malaysia!

It’s a small coffee shop that’s only focused on selling their dimsum and pork buns. Went all the way here and it worth it. No crowds at all even on Sunday morning unlike some dimsum place, which makes me enjoy my food more

Shop owner said the baos are handmade everyday, no overnight items. Indeed the baos tasted great! Generous amount of filling too! The rest of the dimsum items are nice as well. Give it a try :)
